Trump pitches company investment to Ohio voters at midterm rally

President Donald Trump cited major corporate investment plans in Ohio during a rally in the state, part of his effort to boost Republican candidates in key races ahead of the midterm elections in November.

Trump’s speech outside Dayton mixed warnings against Democratic policies with economic messaging as high petroleum prices spurred by the U.S. war with Iran weigh down the president’s approval ratings.

“Your state is booming,” Trump told the indoor crowd at Vandalia, Ohio, citing pledges by Stellantis NV, Electra.aero Inc. and Bayer AG to invest in the state, which he said were spurred by his tariff policies. He repeatedly urged his supporters to turn out and vote.

Trump’s event is the latest stop on a monthlong blitz ahead of Election Day as he looks to reinvigorate his base and drive supporters to the polls.

Ohio, a state he won in all three of his presidential campaigns, is shaping up to be a crucial November battleground, with Republican Sen. Jon Husted facing a competitive challenge from former Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown.

Trump’s onet-ime 2024 primary rival-turned-ally Vivek Ramaswamy is also in a heated race for governor, running against Democrat Amy Acton, a former state health director.

Trump in recent days has visited states once seen as bastions of Republican dominance, including Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama, shying away from other locations with more competitive races, where a visit from the president may be more of a liability than an asset to GOP candidates.

With his approval ratings at historic lows, Trump’s frenzied campaign travel — long promised but finally materializing — is a bid to reverse Republicans’ dismal midterm prospects. His party is in danger of losing its grip on Congress as polls suggest Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the economy and the war the U.S. and Israel launched against Iran in late February.

That conflict, now entering an eighth month, has caused fuel prices to skyrocket, exacerbating the cost-of-living concerns that are the dominant issue in the election.
