Alanis Morissette is pansexual.

The 52-year-old singer came out on the latest episode of comediennes Tig Notaro, 55, Mae Martin, 39, and 46-year-old Fortune Feimster's Handsome podcast, after the latter wondered whether the men who inspired her breakup songs had ever made her consider pursuing relationships with women.

Fortune asked Alanis: "I'm sorry for the men that hurt you, but I'm not sorry for the songs that came from it. Did it make you want to be a lesbian at any point?"

The Ironic hitmaker then shared: "I'm pansexual, so, yeah."

Surprised by the seven-time Grammy winner's revelation, Tig jumped in: "Wait, you're not really pansexual, are you?"

Alanis confirmed: "I am."

After Tig joked that the You Oughta Know artist should have started the podcast episode by coming out, Alanis quipped: "I like to leave it for the epilogue.

"I like to confuse people on the way out. Is it confusing?"

Pansexuality is a sexual, romantic or emotional attraction to people regardless of their gender identity or sex.

Alanis has been married to 46-year-old hip-hop artist Mario "Souleye" Treadway since June 2010, and they are parents to sons Ever, 15, and Winter, seven, and 10-year-old daughter Onyx.

The Hand in My Pocket performer recently reflected on kissing actress Sarah Jessica Parker, now 61, in the 2000 Sex and the City episode Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl..., after their respective characters, Dawn and Carrie Bradshaw, shared a smooch during a game of spin the bottle.

On a September episode of 32-year-old Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, she revealed it was her idea for Carrie to kiss a woman.

Alanis recalled: "I reached out to them and I said, 'Might it be a nice time for Carrie to experience a lesbian moment?' And they said, 'Why, yes. We were thinking the same thing.'"

But she noted: "I think we literally had the same idea at the same time. It happens."

Last year, the You Learn entertainer described the kiss as "very pleasant" and the moment as a "huge deal".

On a June 2025 episode of SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show, Alanis said: "I don't remember a lot, but I remember that for a variety of reasons.

"I remember where we shot it. I remember what I was wearing, and most importantly and least surprising, it was just a huge deal that she agreed to do the show.

"And I do recall kissing her - it was very pleasant. It was very professional.

"We were both treating it as a contractual obligation. It was very nice. I don't recall feeling uncomfortable. I don't recall feeling embarrassed or self-conscious. She was lovely. She was all in.

"I have no feelings other than easy, buoyant."
