Parker Posey has admitted her life "hasn't been easy at all".

The 57-year-old actress has starred in movies such as Superman Returns, Scream 3 and Blade: Trinity, but told CBS News that reaching the position she currently holds in Hollywood has been a challenge.

She mused: "I feel like my life has been such a path. It's not been easy at all but I have felt in the right place at the right time."

Parker added that her parents have been a source of "guidance" for her, and have also always been her biggest fans.

She said: "Oh God, they loved it. My dad had every poster up in his office. He loved it. They're big movie fans!

"My mum and dad are muses, and my whole family, and many people that I meet.

One of Parker's most recent role was in The White Lotus, in which she played Southern socialite Victoria Raitcliff.

And reflecting on the inspiration for the character, Parker said she took characteristics from her mother, as well as other relatives.

She said: "It was all the women in my family. I mean, I love the drama that the South brings."

Parker has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity since starring in The White Lotus, but Beverly Hills, 90210 star Jennie Garth recently opened up about missing out on a role in the show - although it's not clear which role she actually auditioned for. Speaking on her I Choose Me With Jennie Garth podcast, she told guest Susan Lucci, 79: "For me, one of the roles that I have recently not gotten that I was bummed about was one of the characters on White Lotus.

"And they shot that season in Thailand, which I would have really loved. So I was bummed about that. I'm not gonna lie."

Characters she may have been going for include a fictional Hollywood actress Jaclyn (played by Michelle Monaghan), who was on a girls' trip with her close friends Kate (Leslie Bibb) and Laurie (Carrie Coon). Or she might have gone up against Parker for the role of Victoria, who was vacationing with her husband, Timothy, and their three children, in the show.
