Vandal smashes window of NYC bank, leaves graffiti condemning Israeli weapons firm
Published in News & Features
NEW YORK — A vandal smashed the window of an Upper East Side bank Monday morning and left a message in red paint criticizing an Israeli weapons manufacturer, police said.
The vandal targeted the Capital One bank on East 86th Street near Second Avenue, breaking the front window at 7:40 a.m., cops said.
They left a message in red paint across the glass front doors reading “Drop Elbit Pal Action,” an apparent reference to Elbit Systems, which makes drones, surveillance systems and ammunition and is used by the Israeli military, and to Palestine Action, a protest group based in the United Kingdom.
There were no immediate arrests. The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the incident.
Capital One is among the banks that the group wants to cut financial ties that include millions in loans with Elbit. Protests have occurred at numerous banks.
Capital One did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
