BALTIMORE — American Airlines diverted a flight to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport on Thursday to remove a passenger.

“The safety and security of our customers and team members is our top priority, and we do not tolerate violence. We thank our team members for their professionalism and our customers for their understanding,” a spokesperson for the airline said in a statement.

Maryland Transportation Authority Police responded when the plane landed and found Arthur Lundeen, 67, of Arizona, restrained to his seat with duct tape and suffering from an open wound on his arm.

Lundeen was arrested, treated for his injury and charged with disorderly conduct and second-degree assault for behavior that occurred aboard the aircraft after it landed at BWI, according to an authority police spokesperson. The FBI’s Baltimore field office is investigating the actions that occurred while the plane was in the air.

The flight was initially going from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to Newark Liberty International Airport.

In photos and videos published by TMZ, Lundeen can be heard yelling as airline staff duct-taped him to his seat.

Lundeen was released on bail Friday and has a trial scheduled for Oct. 19. Attempts to reach him were unsuccessful.
