Lindsay Clancy's defense attorney has 1 hour to petition high court for stay before judge declares mistrial

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — Judge William Sullivan is giving Lindsay Clancy’s attorney one hour to petition the Supreme Judicial Court for a stay after the judge said he would declare a mistrial.

The 12 jurors in the case wrote a third note saying that they could not come to a consensus on a verdict after days of deliberation. Sullivan said he needed to declare the mistrial, but right before the jurors walked in, Clancy attorney Kevin Reddington made a last ditch effort to object.

Reddington initially asked to have the petition filed Friday, but Sullivan is giving him one hour to petition the SJC for an emergency stay on the juror issue and mistrial.

Clancy is on trial for killing her kids, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, in January 2023. She isn’t disputing that she strangled the children, instead Reddington argued she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and can’t be held criminally responsible.
