Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) is calling for President Trump to be removed from office following a Truth Social post by the Commander-in Chief warning that “a whole civilization will die” in Iran Tuesday night if the country’s leaders do not reach a ceasefire deal with the U.S. by his deadline.

“With each passing day, it becomes increasingly apparent that Donald Trump is unstable and a clear and present danger, not just to the American people but to the world. He must be removed from office before he causes incalculable and unfathomable harm,” Markey said in a written statement Tuesday.

“The House and Senate must return to session. The House must pass articles of impeachment, and then the Senate must vote to convict and remove the President. Or, the cabinet and Vice President, with congressional concurrence, must invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Trump,” he said.

Markey joins Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) 50 House Democrats in calling for the removal of Trump from office. Meanwhile, the rest of the Massachusetts federal delegation isn’t going as far, with a mix of calls for the Congress to utilize the War Powers Act or hold another type of vote to “reign in” Trump and stop the increasing military action.

“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?” Trump posted to his Truth Social account Tuesday morning.

Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) is also calling for the removal of Trump from office, but did not specify how it should be carried out, as Congressman Jim McGovern (MA-02) is calling on Trump’s cabinet to invoke the 25th amendment.

Congressman Bill Keating (MA-09) is blaming House Speaker Mike Johnson for not ending an extended recess for Congress, saying in a lengthy post to X that lawmakers should be in Washington holding votes now.

Congressmen Richard Neal (MA-01), Jake Auchincloss (MA-04), and Seth Moulton (MA-06) are all calling on Johnson and Congressional Republicans to reconvene in order to pass the War Powers Resolution. Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03), meanwhile, is taking an “all of the above” approach, saying anything that gets Trump removed from office will do.

“This is the moment for Republicans to stand up and end this madness. War Powers. 25th Amendment. Impeachment. Whatever it takes. Stand up,” Trahan posted to X.

But Markey says a War Powers Resolution would not be enough to prevent Trump from committing war crimes or even using a nuclear weapon.

“At this point, a war powers resolution, although required under our constitutional order, will not be enough. We have a warmonger in the White House. He has threatened war crimes on an apocalyptic scale and appears eager to commit them, including through the possible use of nuclear weapons,” Markey continued. “We cannot fund this illegal war. The Congress must act now.”

House Minority Leader Katherine Clark (MA-05) issued a joint statement with House Democratic leadership, also calling on Congress to reconvene to put an end to the war. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) called for the same in a post to X.
