Maryland ties for fourth among 50 states in terms of the financial benefits average families would see if Congress passes President Donald Trump’s tax bill, according to a White House news release.

Citing a state-by-state analysis from the president’s Council of Economic Advisers, the Wednesday release lists the anticipated increases to take-home pay for a “typical family with two kids” and the “long-run wage increase” for families, adjusted for inflation. These increases would be in four- and five-figure amounts across the board, according to the analysis.

For take-home pay, Maryland families would see a typical increase of between $8,900 and $15,500, putting the state fourth behind California, Massachusetts and New Jersey. For long-run wages, Maryland families would see a typical increase of between $7,200 and $13,800, putting the state fifth behind the same three states plus Connecticut. Maryland tied with Washington in both categories.

“President Donald J. Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill will be an economic windfall for working and middle-class Americans, delivering the largest tax cut in history, higher wages, higher take-home pay, and much more — coupled with generational spending cuts and deficit reduction that will position the U.S. for real prosperity,” the release reads.

The bill would extend provisions of Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), meaning most taxpayers wouldn’t see much change to their federal income tax burden because tax brackets would remain at current levels established by the TCJA for tax year 2018. A separate analysis from the nonpartisan Tax Foundation suggests more than 60% of Americans would face a tax increase in 2026 if Congress cannot agree on the sweeping bill, a fact the Trump White House used to lobby House Republican holdouts to support it last month.

While people in all 50 states are expected to benefit financially from the tax bill, economists and Democrats have pointed out that wealthy Americans would see the greatest boost to their wallets from extending TCJA provisions.

Minutes following the White House’s release, Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman released a report on how Trump’s policies have impacted the state’s economy.

Lierman’s report focuses heavily on the president’s efforts to slash the federal workforce and notes that Maryland had the nation’s third-highest median household income in 2023. Other states expected to see large benefits from the Trump tax bill — such as the three that ranked ahead of Maryland in both categories of the Council of Economic Advisers analysis — are also among the wealthiest.
